When we think about community service, what usually comes to mind are physical acts of kindness... picking up trash by the side of the road to beautify a highway; giving blood to help patients in local hospitals; building playscapes for children in impoverished neighborhoods; and spending time at the food bank, sorting and boxing food for those who could benefit from a hearty meal. All of these services are essential and valuable to our community, to be sure. But what if, for whatever reason, someone was unable to perform physical acts of charity? How could they help the community? Certainly, one could make a financial donation, which is tremendously helpful in assisting charities meet the needs of those they serve in very specific ways... but what else could be done?
Grey Wolfe Publishing has an alternative... Community Service Anthologies! Why not use your intellect and creativity to serve your community, and add value to the words you write by serving those who could benefit from your time and attention? This is a fabulous option for those who are home-bound, students, or seniors who would like to serve their community, but can't necessarily spend hours doing physical labor.
There are two new books that need your stories, poems, and anecdotal essays. The first is "Legends: Wishful Thinking". In this book, we ask you to describe a wish and how it is fulfilled. The proceeds from the sales of this book serves the Make A Wish Foundation.
The second book is "Legends: If These Walls Could Talk". In this book, we ask you to send us stories told from the point of view of a living space, and how those that dwell within impact that space. The proceeds from the sales of this book serves the Michigan Chapter of Habitat For Humanity.
Also, contributing to these books serves you, too. If you are an aspiring author seeking to grow your publishing platform, inclusion in these anthologies will help your career. If you're not an aspiring author, and just like to write for fun... well, inclusion in these books gives you the opportunity to stretch your creativity and feel good about the fact that you're paying forward a kindness that will impact many people.
You can read all the submission details and guidelines on our website. Just click on a banner below to jump to the book where you would like to add your words. And, feel free to contribute to BOTH books, if you'd like.
We hope that you will lend your creativity to these projects and spread the word to your friends and family. And, if you know of high school students in need of community service hours for graduation, we would be happy to honor each contributing student writer with two service hours for each piece they submit to either book.
We're excited to bring to you a new Blog... Michigan Musings... Articles Celebrating The Written Word by the Authors of The Scriptorium and other Writerly Folks.
